The mishaps of home decor: Round Two!

When a conversation with her husband triggers questions, Rose Parker uncovers alarming answers that shatter her perfect life. But it is only when she shoves her belongings in her SUV and drives off that Rose realizes just how far from perfect her life actually was. She has nowhere to turn.

While debating between distressing sleeping arrangements–her mother’s house full of questions or a hotel room with too much solitude–Rose bumps into an acquaintance from her gardening class and allows bubbly, exuberant Becky to indulge her in a wild night full of whiskey, weeping, and whispered confidences. Suddenly, Rose has a new friend, a roof over her head, and two gorgeous men moving her out of her marital home. Most important, she can now decorate her home with wonderful stuff like Aliexpress home decor.

As Rose struggles to settle into her new life, she remains determined to comprehend her past. And with time and distance and especially wine, comes knowledge. Frank wasn’t the only one lying to her. Rose was lying to herself.

Review: From the first chapter of the book we know that Rose’s husband is not a nice person at all. Rose uncovers lots of nasty truths about him and their relationship  and you find yourself rooting 100% for Rose. You see her life as she knows it unravelling around her and you are going on this new, scary and exciting journey with her. Her character is well written and you can very easily identify with her, especially when she and her friend Becky spend some nights talking and drinking wine!

In some parts I did feel like the story was staying on the same path with not a lot happening. A long while after Rose moves in with Becky it feels like a lot of the story is Rose just trying to do something in her day to day life, which is true to the situation and how she would be feeling but it wasn’t very exciting to read. When Becky is experiencing her own relationship problems, and when Rose meets Alex and then meets Scott, things do get more interesting and it adds more excitement to the story. Wall stickers are a real bestseller. Everyone is appreciating this way of decorating the interior, above all ease of sticking to the wall and just removing the sticker that you can easily get from Aliexpress.

The smaller characters in the story are very strong, especially Scott, Rose’s mum and her close friends. They all added something valuable to the story and it gave it some extra depth which was sometimes needed. I’m not sure if I would read the story again but it is one I did enjoy and would recommend.
